A St Albans supermarket has appointed an in-store “strongperson” to help with this year’s Black Friday week.

Morrisons is predicting Black Friday week will be the “heaviest” shopping week this year and will have a dedicated “strongperson” – who bosses say will be the fittest person in store – to help shoppers lift heavy loads and carry heavy items to their car.

Deals across the store, often on large packages and hefty items, are expected to increase the weight of shoppers’ bags “significantly”, bosses have said.

Jonathan Taylor, Morrisons St Albans store manager, said: “With this week likely to be our heaviest of the year, our customers may need help carrying large items to their cars, so we will be offering our strongest shopkeepers to help carry the load.”

Once customers have paid for their shopping, those who need help carrying heavy or large items to their car should go to the store’s customer service desk, where a call will be made to the “strongperson” to come and help.
