Tributes have been paid to a well-loved “stalwart” of St Albans and Watford football who passed away in September.
David Wray, who was a lifelong supporter of Watford FC, was commemorated in the team’s programme for the Watford v Leicester game this Saturday (November 19).
The obituary praised Mr Wray’s “enthusiasm and dedication” for his work promoting youth football, both in St Albans and nationwide.
Mr Wray, who died in the early hours of September 27 surrounded by his family, worked with St Albans City Youth FC both as a coach and leading projects to promote football for younger generations.
A statement on the youth FC’s Facebook page said: “David’s enthusiasm and dedication enriched the lives of many people during his years with St Albans City Youth FC, the wider Hertfordshire football family and within the community, he will be sadly missed by all.”
The Watford FC programme called Mr Wray an “invaluable part of the football family” and said his work was “nothing less than extraordinary”.
He is survived by his wife Lesley, his children and his family and friends, of which there were many.
