A new bus service has been launched in St Albans, and one county councillor was thrilled to wake up early to buy the first ticket.

The new S7 bus service was launched yesterday morning (Dec 5) and Lib Dem Cllr Sandy Walkington for St Albans South, is urging people to use the bus service in fears it may stop running.

The new S7 route travels from the Verulam estate to St Albans City Station.
The service is linked with the existing S8 and S9 bus service.

The station link covers peak hours including connecting with the first off-peak trains in the morning, and with the first off-peak train after peak-time in the evening.

Mr Walkington said: “It was pretty cold and dark at 7 am, and I have been campaigning for this bus as it was always absurd that this corner of St Albans had no direct bus link to the station, and I’m really pleased to have succeeded in getting it launched at a time when so many bus services are being cut.

“It helps both commuters and leisure rail users. But the subsidy enabling it to be launched will only last for a period, residents need to use it or lose it.”
