The victim of an assault at St Albans railway station is appealing for anyone with information about her attacker to come forward.

The 44-year-old woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, was attacked on her way to work at St Albans main station at around 6.15am on Friday June 24.

She was walking into the station when she collided with a man, who then pushed her to the ground with his elbow.

The offender was challenged by a member of the public, causing him to become abusive.

He then bought items from WH Smith before leaving the station.

The victim sustained bruising but did not require hospital treatment. She was so shaken by the incident that she did not report it to police until the next day.

Speaking last week, the victim said: “As an immediate result of the assault, I changed my daily travel plans in the hope that I would avoid seeing the man again.

“His aggression towards the man who helped me after the incident was shocking and really scared me. I would feel very relieved if he could be found.”

Investigating officer PC Ben Herridge said: “The victim was clearly very shaken and upset by the incident. There were other people nearby who saw what happened and may be able to help identify the offender.

“It is not acceptable to behave violently or aggressively towards fellow passengers. It may have meant nothing to the offender but the incident has had an ongoing impact on a woman who was just going about her business. She feels nervous and uncomfortable using the railway after what happened to her and for fear of a repeat incident.

“If you are the man who pushed this woman over at St Albans City station in the summer, you know who you are, please come forward and resolve this incident so that the victim can move on with her life.”

If you recognise the offender or have any other information, please contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or text 61016, quoting reference number 300 – 28/11/2016.

Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 500 111.
