Veteran striker Jamie Cureton, a man with 263 Football League goals under his belt, has signed for St Albans City following his release from Eastleigh.

The 41-year-old, who is perhaps best known for spells in the late-1990s with Bristol Rovers and Reading, has joined Ian Allinson's side after departing his former National League employers last week.

The born goalscorer, who even in his fifth decade may represent something of a coup for the Saints, will go straight into their squad to face Margate tomorrow.

Allinson told the club's official website: "Jamie has always been a goalscorer and when he became available I had no doubt in my mind that I wanted to bring him to Clarence Park.

"He will strengthen the squad as we go into a busy period and we have had to beat off competition from a number of different clubs to secure Jamie’s signature."

Cureton made seven appearances for Eastleigh during a two-month spell in Hampshire, scoring once.
