Superstar George Michael has been unveiled as the secret donor to a musical about the Aids epidemic.
The 53-year-old, who was set to release a documentary in 2017, funded Quilt, a Musical Celebration 20 years ago.
Following his shock death on Christmas Day, hundreds have taken to social media to share examples of his generosity.
George, who grew up in Bushey, rose to fame as a member of Wham!, who are best known for their hits Club Tropicana and Last Christmas.
He sold more than 100 million albums throughout a career spanning almost four decades.
George Michael’s family and close friends have been “touched beyond words by the incredible outpouring of love” from fans since the pop star’s tragic death, his publicist has said.
In a statement, she praised the “many, many kind words” and airplay given to his hits since he died of suspected heart failure at his home in Oxfordshire.
On Thursday, December 29 2016 a post-mortem examination was carried out and the Thames Valley Police have said: “The cause of death is inconclusive and further tests will now be carried out.
The results of these tests are unlikely to be known for several weeks.
“Thames Valley Police will prepare a file for the Oxfordshire Coroner. Mr Michael’s death is still being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.”
