In the run up to the weekend, some of you will have prepared for an onslaught of wintery weather dubbed “thunder snow” by many of the tabloids.

Well so far the arctic conditions predicted to cover Hertfordshire in a snowy blanket have not quite materialised.

There have been flecks of sleet and snow spotted here and there but generally we have experienced the usual freezing dampness expected for January.

But is that likely to continue throughout the weekend, or could we finally see the first heavy snow of the winter in our part of the country?

Well it’s possible, although any snowfall we do get is unlikely to stick around long enough for us to have fun in it.

People could wake up on Friday morning to some sleet and snow but rain is just as likely, with overnight temperatures remaining around the 0 degrees C mark.

It will brighten up in the afternoon but remain cold and blustery heading into Saturday.

We should see a bright, cold start to the weekend and again the possibility of some wintery showers before outbreaks of rain and milder conditions slowly move across from the west, bringing us temperatures as high as 7C on Sunday afternoon.
