Can you make a mean Victoria sponge? If so, get off your soggy bottom and apply for the country’s most-loved cooking show.

Love Productions, who sold the Great British Bake Off to Channel 4 in a £75m three-year deal, has opened its application process for new bakers.

Contestants will be filmed competing in the tent – but without any guarantee the show will actually be aired.

The BBC’s previous contract allows them a “cooling off” option, meaning another series on a rival channel could be prohibited until 2018.

But that isn’t stopping the producers from looking for talent.

The official website says: "The hunt is on for amateur bakers to take part in the eighth series of The Great British Bake Off.

"If you fancy putting your skills to the test then apply now and prove what you're made of.”

To be eligible for Bake Off, you must be aged 16 or over, be a resident of the UK and have never worked as a full-time baker, cook or chef.

Contestants are not allowed an NVQ or other qualification in baking, cooking, food production, catering or food preparation and they must be able to commit to all filming days.

The deadline for applications is tomorrow and you can apply here.
