Instead of sending a man out to the crease a team of cricket players took on a group of clever cloggs in a popular BBC quiz show.

The St Albans Cricket Club appeared of Eggheads - the general knowledge quiz where teams from all over the UK battle to beat the Eggheads - on January 20.

The team, which went by the name Over & Out, was captained by Andy Saunders and included Andy Knill-Jones, Toby Crisp, Nick Kirwan and Jonny Hall.

They took on Eggheads Barry Simmons, Kevin Ashman, Judith Keppel, Dave Rainford and Lisa Thiel and played for £7,000.

Despite Mr Saunders and Mr Knill-Jones defeating Mr Simmons and Mrs Keppel respectively in the individual rounds and getting three team members into the final, Over & Out were ultimately defeated after getting a question about pop singer Rihanna wrong.

Mr Saunders said: "Appearing on Eggheads was a great day out and a really enjoyable experience.

"What started out as a daft idea in the pub saw us acquitting ourselves pretty well.

"Knocking out two of the Eggheads in the individual rounds is an achievement in itself but unfortunately we just could not quite get ourselves over the line.

"Personally, I will never be able to listen to another Rihanna song ever again."
