Two St Albans City football fans have been banned from attending future fixtures with immediate effect for hurling smoke bombs onto the pitch before a match.
Blue and yellow smoke billowed up from the Vauxhall Road turf after the devices were thrown onto the pitch just before the Saints’ 2-2 draw with Hemel Hempstead Town FC on Saturday, January 14.
In a statement, St Albans City Football Club said: “The club takes the safety of it supporters and employees very seriously and will not tolerate any supporters using any form of pyrotechnic devices at any home or away game, and will take appropriate action it feels necessary to protect their safety.”
It is believed that Hemel Hempstead Town FC reported the incident to police.
Hertfordshire Police confirmed they had investigated the incident but, due to the different regulations that different leagues have, no criminal offences in this instance were committed and therefore they would be taking no further action.
