Emergency services are gearing up for the arrival of Storm Doris, with strong winds and heavy rain expected to batter south west Hertfordshire later this week.
The East of England Ambulance Service, along with the county’s fire service, is being briefed this morning for the “stormy days” ahead, according to director of strategy Matt Broad.
The Met Office has issued an amber wind warning for the east of England, including Hertfordshire, with the full effects of the storm due on Thursday.
Powerful gusts are expected throughout the day on Thursday, with a short period where gales of up to 80mph could be experienced.
The Met Office states that while the strongest winds look to be only short-lived, damage to structures, interruptions to power supplies and widespread disruption to travel networks is likely.
It also warns of the danger of flying debris.
The arrival of Doris follows several days of unseasonably warm weather across the country, with temperatures reaching the high teens in some parts.
