A man has been jailed for driving and drug related offences.

Stuart Hutchins, 43, of Withy Place, Park Street, St Albans was charged with intent to supply cocaine and was sentenced to 43 months in jail at St Albans Crown Court on March 13.

Hutchins was also charged with possession of a cannabis with intent to supply and possession of cannabis resin and received an 11 month sentence for each offence to be served concurrently.

The drugs were forfeited and destroyed, £485 in cash was seized and Hutchins was ordered to pay a £170 victim surcharge.

Hutchins was stopped while driving an Astra Van without an MOT along Park Street, St Albans when an officer from the Safer Neighbourhood Team recognised him as a disqualified driver.

When the van was searched scales and used bags were found in the boot of the car, and herbal cannabis, money and paper work was discovered beneath the driver’s seat, He had also sentenced for failing to stop for a police officer he was disqualified from driving for three years and will have to re-take his test.

For driving without insurance and driving without a licence he received two three-year sentences to run concurrently.

PC Andy Shepherd from the London Colney, Colney Heath and St Albans East Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “A hunch led to the arrest of Hutchins and we were able to get these drugs off the street and remove a dangerous driver from our roads. “He will have plenty of time to reflect on what he has done during his time in prison.”
