An inspiring cyclist, railway heritage trust and young campaigner were among winners at the Mayor’s Pride Awards in St Albans on Tuesday.

The annual awards, held this year at St Michael’s Manor by the Mayor of St Albans on Tuesday, 28 March, celebrate charities, business and individuals who contribute to the community.

Categories include the voluntary sector award, young person of distinction and the Mayor’s Recognition Award, which went to St Albans Signal Box Preservation Trust.

Mayor of St Albans Cllr Frances Leonard said: “I want to thank all the volunteers, groups, charities and local businesses nominated for the awards for their positive contributions to community life.

“The judges and I were particularly impressed with the efforts and commitment of the winners. These community stars deserve to be rewarded for making life better for people living in the District.”

Winners include StarScope, a charity providing support for those with cerebral palsy, staff at Fosse House care home for raising money for a sensory room and wildlife garden for residents, and Sustainable St Albans Week 2016, which saw volunteers hold events to raise awareness to the environment.
