Hundreds flocked to parks across south west Hertfordshire yesterday to bask in the spring sunshine and workers won't need to put their short sleeved shirts away just yet.

Today it is going to be even hotter than yesterday in the county, with temperatures reaching 15C - warmer than Istanbul in Turkey.

It's more than an excuse to enjoy one of the town's parks this lunchtime, with the mercury showing just 1C below what it will be in Athens, Greece.

And although rain might return tomorrow, the rest of the week looks promising.

"Sunshine will continue from Wednesday onwards and we will see good spells of sunshine across the country," Met Office forecaster Charlie Powell said.

"There will be highs of 12 or 13 degrees on Wednesday and then 14 or 15 degrees on Thursday, which will continue for the next five days."

Last Thursday, Britain enjoyed the hottest March day for five years, when temperatures soared to 21.8 degrees in the South of England and London.

April 2016 was the hottest ever globally, beating a record going back more than 130 years.
