Award winning playwright Justin Butcher will perform his one-man play in the setting of the Cathedral Nave in St Albans.

The Devil’s Passion tells the Easter story from the perspective of a diabolical Secret Service Chief, striving to combat ‘extremism’ in the Middle East in defence of our ‘freedoms’.

Directed by Olivier award winner Guy Masterson, the play is set in 33AD when Jesus enters Jerusalem to fulfil his destiny and Satan ascends from hell to stop him.

This production is currently being adapted as a drama for BBC Radio with the star of Agatha Christie’s Poirot in the title role, David Suchet.

The Sub Dean of St Albans Cathedral says: “When you get the likes of David Suchet describing something as ‘remarkable’ and ‘forceful’ you know you’re on to a good thing.  Seeing The Devil’s Passion is a brilliant way to prepare for Holy Week and Easter, and in the uniquely evocative space of the Cathedral, it promises to be an entertaining and inspiring performance.”
