Students taking part in their annual 'Ideas Festival' will be focusing on a ‘breathe’ theme.

The festival, which starts at St Albans High School for Girls on Monday, includes a day of TED-x talks by year ten students covering topics including air pollution in Delhi and apps for breathing.

On Wednesday, Professor Tanya Byron – a psychologist who specialises in child and adolescent mental health – will speak to parents about digital health and how to manage it.

And on Friday, Hugh Montgomery, the director of the Institute for Human Health and Performance at University College London, will talk to girls about how genetics can influence physical fitness.

Alongside activities planned for the week, students will have a homework amnesty and teachers will have an email amnesty.

Kathryn Gorman, deputy head teacher at the school, said: “Our theme for Ideas Festival, ‘Breathe,’ is about finding the breadth and space for deep learning and reflection in students’ lives.”

The theme ‘Breathe’ was inspired by the Anthony Gormley monoprint of the same name, which is currently on loan to the school.
