A 29 year-old who died of cancer will be honoured in a charity football match and fun day in St Albans on Sunday.

Charity worker Alex Demain lived with Crohn’s disease for most of his life but was diagnosed with cancer in 2014 and died 18 months later.

The fun day and football match, at Sandridge Rovers Football Club in St Albans, raised £9,000 for Crohns and Colitis UK last year, and will bring together his close friends to face off against Mr Demain’s former team, Sandridge Rovers FC.

His sister Sophie Demain said: “Losing my brother will always be the hardest thing to happen to me and my family, but this event shines light through, bringing friends and family together to celebrate his life.

“Alex loved football and was always up for a fun packed day, and would be smiling down knowing the love and hard work that his friends and my family put into this event.”

Mr Demain was studying for a masters in marketing and fundraising at the time of diagnosis, which he was awarded posthumously.

The event begins at 12pm on April 30 at Sandridge Rovers FC, and will include a BBQ, children’s entertainment, cake stall and raffle alongside the charity match.
