It’s that time of the year where exam season starts to creep up on every student, however, it always starts even earlier for some students. Across London, art and language students are already beginning to prep for their exams, which, for some schools, have already started.

At Ashmole Academy, AS and GCSE students have already begun their 10 hour art exam pieces, which is set to happen for 5 hours for each of the two days. With this year’s theme for AS students being ‘Structure’, a class of 15 have dedicated hours to experimenting with different artist styles and techniques, which has all led up to their final canvas piece.

The students have already drawn up the outline of their paintings, with canvas sizes varying from A2 all the way to two massive A1+ canvases being conjoined together. The subject matters for the AS students vary, with some doing still life, to chaos in composition and even mountain landscapes, the amount of diversity in the topics just makes it more exciting to see the outcome. The exam starts on Tuesday, with this long weekend being taking advantage of to finish any last minute work.

AS art student, Sade, said that she is “stressed but really excited” to see how her final piece is going to turn out, and said that “the atmosphere of being in the exam is both stressful yet calming” at the same time. Another AS student, Livvy, said that art is “the only subject [she’s] 100% confident in”, and so will approach the exam with anticipation.

We can only wish the art students luck for their 10 hour exam, and hope that their successes can get them grades that they wish for.
