Distraction burglars posed as tree surgeons to steal items from a home in Radlett.

Several items of jewellery, foreign currency, a distinctive brown Sbrebrown fountain pen, passports and documentation were stolen.

The victims received a leaflet through the door advertising tree surgeon services.

They contacted the company and arranged for some work to be carried out.

Eight men then arrived at the address between 11.15am and 12.20pm on Tuesday, April 25 and cut down a tree in back garden.

While at the address, the men used various methods to distract the occupants, including asking for glasses of water, while property was stolen from inside.

The men left the area in a small blue car.

PC Dave Purvis, from Hertfordshire Constabulary’s Operation Manhunt Unit*, said: “This incident is being linked to similar offences which have occurred across Hertsmere in recent weeks and extensive investigations are currently being carried out to trace those responsible.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Operation Manhunt via the Hertfordshire Constabulary non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference J1/17/1777.
