The parliamentary candidates have been announced for the snap election announced last month.

They include representatives from most of the main parties - as well as one or two outsiders.

Conservative candidate Anne Main will be looking to hold onto her St Albans seat when as constituents take to the ballot boxes on Thursday, June 8 for the General Election.

Mrs Main won the seat in 2005 from Labour candidate Kerry Pollard, who will be running again this year in hopes of reclaiming his former seat in the Commons.

Hoping to challenge them this year are Daisy Cooper for the Liberal Democrats and the Green Party’s Jack Easton.

In the 2015 election the Conservatives received 46.6 per cent (25,392) of the votes compared to Mr Pollard’s 23.3 per cent (12,660) share of the votes.

The Hitchin and Harpenden constituency may also hotly contested as veteran Conservative Peter Lilley, who has been MP for the area since the boundaries were set in 1997, is standing down.

Bim Afolami has replaced Mr Lilley as the Conservative Party candidate for the area.

He will be standing against John Hayes for the Labour Party, Lib Dem Hugh Annand, the Green Party’s Richard Cano, Sid Cordle from the Christian Peoples Alliance and independent candidate Ray Blake.

The deadline for registering to vote at this election is midnight on Monday, May 22.
