The Harpenden Folk, Roots and World Music Festival will be returning in June.

Taking place at the Harpenden Public Halls on Sunday, June 11, will be headlined by Martin Carthy MBE and his daughter Eliza Carthy, with five other acts in the line-up.

Martin, who grew up in Hamstead, London, is a British folk singer and guitarist known for inspiring the likes of Bob Dylan and Paul Simon. He first performed at the age of 16 at The Loft, a coffee shop in Primrose Hill.

He has many musical partnerships under his belt having worked with Steeleye Span, Dave Swarbrick and his award-winning wife Norma Waterson.

His daughter Eliza has twice been nominated for the Mercury Prize and winner of innumerable other accolades over a 20 year career. She has performed and recorded with a diverse array of artists including, Paul Weller, Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Patrick Wolf and Bob Neuwirth. 

Eliza has co-presented the BBC Radio 3 World Music Awards, been a regular guest-presenter on the BBC Radio 2 Mark Radcliffe Show and has made many appearances on BBC TVs Later with Jools. 

While her father was the subject of Originals music documentary strand on BBC 2, Eliza has been the subject of an hour long ITV documentary Heaven & Earth and My Music on Channel 5.

The support acts include Michael Chapman, first became known on the London and Cornish folk circuits in 1966 and is known as one of the UK’s best finger picking style guitar players.

Trio Chris Sherburn, Denny Bartley and Emily Sanders and soloist Louise Jordan will bring classic styles to the stage.

Mia and The Moon combine early folk festival influences with the urban, contemporary styles of today as well as a gospel sound while Lucy Zirins mixes folk, country and blues influences into original songs.
