A flowerbed will be replanted as part of a council scheme.

Lydekker Park in Harpenden will be replanted in response to a suggestion made by a newly formed “friends of the park” group, as decided in a town council meeting on Wednesday.

In 2018 the bed will be planted with a floral display to commemorate the end of World War One, but in the time being will be replanted with shrubs and annual floral displays which tie in with the planting in the town centre.

The park was given to the town by Miss Lydekker in 1937 so long as it was preserved as a memorial to her loved ones lost in WW1.

Cllr Mrs Nicola Linacre, Vice Chairman of the committee said, “Lydekker Park is a little green jewel in Harpenden and the replanting of the central bed is part of a programme of continued improvements in the area which has seen some much needed tree work, as well as works to the pond to improve water quality to make it a vibrant habitat”.

The Harpenden Town Council also prioritised town centre pavements for repay across Leyton Green.
