African drummers will lead a procession to kick off this year’s Harpenden Carnival on Saturday.

The “Harpenden Goes Wild” themed festival will feature the procession, led by African drums, into Harpenden Common where an African dance workshop will take centre stage.

Other events taking place are ferret racing, a dedicated wildlife zone, musical performances and stalls from charities and food vendors.

St Albans & Harpenden Review:

Harpenden Mayor Rosemary Farmer said: “I am really looking forward to the Harpenden Carnival which always proves to be an exciting and fun day.”

Children will also be well entertained by Mr Alexander and Pete the Dinosaur, and the animal theme continues with birds of prey demonstrations and “lamb national” racing.

The procession starts at 12pm from Lydekker Park, with the event starting at 12.30pm until 5pm in Harpenden Common, where admission is free.
