Sir Elton John has welcomed Watford's new manager by dedicating a song to him during one of his shows.

The former owner and chairman was playing at the Twickenham Stoop as part of his world tour when he mentioned the new Hornets head coach.

Marco Silva was appointed to the Watford hot-seat just over a week ago, while Elton John has been associated with Watford for years.

The Crocodile Rock singer has twice previously owned the club; from 1976 to 1987 and 1997 to 2002 respectively, whilst still remaining president for ten years when he was not the owner.

Marco Silva said he was 'excited' to take over at Watford

John's relationship with the now late manager Graham Taylor at the club saw the Hornet's at their most prominent during the 80's and again in the late 90's, seeing Watford earn back-to-back promotions to once again reach the top-flight of English football.

During the show at Twickenham on Saturday, it was Silva's turn to receive his backing, with Elton John dedicating 'Candle in the Wind' to the man who he hopes can bring similar success to his beloved club.

Elton John is currently on a world tour, which was postponed it in April due to ill heath.
