Members of a synagogue made their first "truly unforgettable journey" to a concentration camp.

St Albans United Synagogue took more than 30 members of their congregation to Poland where they visited Lodz, which was once home to the second largest ghetto created by the Nazis, and Auschwitz concentration camp.

The "moving, meaningful and memorable" trip, led by Rabbi Daniel Sturgess was an intensive three-day programme which gave members the chance to learn about the thriving Jewish culture in the area which came to an end in the Nazi era.

The trip also included stops to the Museum of Jewish History, which is built on the Warsaw Ghetto site, Krakow, and Chelmno and Wolbrom, which are forest locations where many Jewish people were killed by the Nazis.

The group hope to make similar visits in the future, with Berlin and Prague among potential destinations.
