Pupils helped combat the “growing problem” of child hunger by donating hundreds of kilos of food to a foodbank and paying to wear their own clothes.
Students at The John Lyon School, in Middle Road, Harrow, wanted to support Harrow Foodbank in order to help children who may be left hungry when school kitchens are closed over the summer months.
The paid for “the privilege” of wearing their own clothes with food donations, which resulted in more than 538 kilos of food being donated to the Harrow Food Bank
The head boy at the school said: “Spirits were high in school as we all worked together to collect this huge amount of food that will benefit local children.”
Mrs Plummer, a senior teacher, added: “This is an excellent initiative as pupils from across the school community learnt about the reality of holiday hunger and worked together to help those in greater need.”
