Highfield Park was brought to life by the St Albans Town and Country Show which took place on Saturday.

From cooking demonstrations to dog-whispering and horseback falconry, the show boasted activities for all the family and was flooded with people from around the city.

And for those less inclined to watch the demonstrations around the field, there were opportunities to shop at country stalls to see the work of craftsmen from around the county, and visit food stall to see all that local producers can offer.

TV chef Alan Coxon took part in cooking demonstrations after becoming the British ambassador for food and tourism after working in Michelin-starred restaurants for more than 30 years. He was joined by St Albans-based Masterchef 2017 contestant Lyndsay Evans, whose extensive travels saw her serving up crocodile to guest judges during the competition, giving her cooking a deliciously exotic twist.

Jonathan Marshall, the only person doing horseback falconry in the UK, performed classical dressage on white stallions and while falcons swooped and dived around him.

Another reality star performed for revellers as Dima, the dog whisperer from Britain’s Got Talent, put on an impressive display where he trained and taught his kennel of dogs to gallop and jump through hoops. Dima believes that even the angriest pitbull can be turned into a gentleman!

But Dima wasn’t the only dog-trainer at the show, with teams from K9 Security and the Lowestoft Display Team in the dog show area of the festival showing how they train their pooches to show incredible agility.

Children had their own area to explore at the show with a petting zoo and even reptile enclosure, where kids could stroke a boa constrictor before heading off to a traditional Punch and Judy show, or to listen to their favourite stories read to them.

With a medieval village set up to walk through and a death-defying motorcycle stunts also on offer for visitors, the show was certainly one not to be missed for next year.
