A pensioner has died after falling from the roof of a football stand.
Clive Churchhouse was seriously injured this morning when he fell from the stand in Clarence Park – the home of St Albans City FC.
He was taken by air ambulance to St George’s Hospital in Tooting but sadly died.
Mr Churchhouse was one of St Albans City’s longest-serving supporters.
Chairman Lawrence Levy said on behalf of the club: “We are all completely devastated by the news. Clive was a much loved character around the club with a big personality who regularly helped out at the ground and on away trips with the team.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Valerie, daughter Sallyann, son Keith and his grandchildren, as well as his wide circle of friends at this very sad time.”
A match due to take place between St Albans and Luton Town FC this evening has been cancelled as a mark of respect. Luton Town will instead play Hitchin Town FC.
