The Great British Bake Off aired on Channel 4 for the first time last night and, if you were watching, you might have been happy to see Watford’s contestant win Star Baker.
Steven Carter-Bailey, 34, first began baking at the age of nine with his mum. He works in marketing but says his passion is baking, with photos on his social media accounts (@SpongeCakeSqTin) also proving he will be one to watch with his quirky creations.
The showstopper challenge was to create an illusion cake. Paul Hollywood, the only original cast member to make the move from the BBC to Channel 4 described this as "the most complex showstopper challenge ever set in the first week of Bake Off."
Steven created a cake in the shape of a BLT sandwich and loaf of bread which new judge Prue Leith, taking over from Mary Berry, described as “absolutely astonishing”.
