A six-hour street party set to have more than 12,000 guests will be celebrating the district’s culinary culture in the city centre.

The Street Feastival will host more than 100 stalls showcasing products from artisan cheeses to homemade chocolates for revellers to enjoy in the St Peters Street and Market Place this Sunday.

Foodies will be able to enjoy spectacles at the cookery theatre, the butchery display and meals from pop-up restaurants as well as the gourmet grub to be bought along the way.

Any budding drink connoisseurs can relax at the cocktail and real ale bar on the village green, or test their skill at a beer tasting event.

And children won’t be overlooked either, with kid’s workshops available, love music and a city farm provided by Oaklands College that is sure to keep everyone entertained.

The fiesta will start at noon, and full-bellied festival-goers can head home content at 6pm.

This is part of the St Albans Food and Drink Festival, which kicks off its 10th year on Wednesday and finishes on Saturday, October 7.

Among the highlights are the CAMRA beer and cider festival, the festival awards, a gin and jazz evening, and sustainable Saturday to bring things to a close.

St Albans City and District Councillor Beric Read, responsible for business and the community, said: “The Street Feastival is one of the biggest City centre events of the year. It’s a truly fantastic occasion and not to be missed.

“I am always astonished at the quality, creativity and diversity of the District’s food and drink businesses that are of great importance to the local economy. This street party and the Festival as a whole is a marvellous showcase for them.

“Residents of all ages have the chance to experience new tastes, learn new kitchen skills and watch some of the District’s best chefs in action. There’s something for everyone and it makes for a great afternoon out for the whole family.”
