Things will be heating up with a rural take on retro TV cooking competition with a vegetarian twist.

Chefs from commercial kitchens across the District will be showcasing their skills and offering tips at the Ready Steady St Albans event on Wednesday, October 4.

The team from Dylans Kings Arms in George Street will present a starter of wild mushrooms, soft quail’s egg, grilled sour dough with rapeseed hollandaise.

Following them will be Young Masterchef winner 2016 Harry Lumsdon who is head chef at The Great Northern in London Road, who will be cooking a main course of Vacherin tortellini with caramelized onion broth.

To finish dessert will be served by Oaklands College catering tutor Paul Wood and some students. They will be making a plethora of puddings including mango and lime mousse with a tuille biscuit; mini carrot cake, with a butter scotch sauce and chocolate decadence, with honey combe and crème fraiche and a selection of petit fours.

This is part of the St Albans Food and Drink Festival, which will continue until Saturday, October 7.

Money from the £25 ticket price will go towards charity Youth Talk which provides confidential counselling for people aged 13-25 in the area, and is the chosen charity of district’s Mayor.
