The final of this year’s Bake Off was turbulent to say the least.

The day began with judge Prue Leith announcing the winner on her Twitter account hours before the show aired on Channel 4.

Shockingly, she Tweeted: “No one told me judging a #gbbo final would be so emotional. I wanted them all to win. Bravo Sophie.”

The judge quickly apologised and said she was “in too much of a state to talk about it,” before Tweeting: “I am so sorry to the fans of the show for my mistake this morning, I am in a different time zone and mortified by my error.”

This came as quite a shock to many as Watford’s very own Steven Carter-Bailey was tipped to win from the very beginning of the season.

Steven wasn’t a sore loser and himself Tweeted: “I’m so incredibly proud of you Sophie Faldo and I’m even prouder to call you my friend! See you soon xxxxxx”

In yet another a surprising turn of events, it seems the Steven and winner Sophie Faldo have become rather good friends and intend to go on a baking holiday together.

The credits of the last show of the season revealed some behind the scenes footage and details from the Bake Off tent, including the pair’s blossoming friendship.

The credits revealed: “They’re planning to go on holiday together. They’re going to Scandinavia…to visit bakeries…and see the Northern Lights.”

Could this be the beginning of a brand new TV show?
