An artificial turf pitch is to be built at a school after a successful appeal for funding.

Roundwood Park School and Harpenden Colts FC applied to the Football Foundation for a grant to build a floodlit, full size artificial turf pitch at the school, to be ready for use by the community by Easter 2018.

Now, the two groups are launching a join fundraising drive to raise a further £200,000 for the construction, and are asking people to donate for their own personalised paving stone in the viewing area of the pitch.

Ian Holden, Harpenden Colts chairman, said: "This is wonderful news and will transform the provision of sport in Harpenden, creating opportunities for all ages to get active throughout the year whatever the weather.

"As a club we are proud to have been part of bringing this facility to Harpenden and we would particularly like to thank our partners Roundwood Park School and Hertfordshire FA for both their vision and commitment to bring us to this point.

"As a club we can now plan for the future with the guarantee of a state-of-the-art facility available to us on our doorstep."

The bulk of the funding is to be provided by the FA, and the school and team will each make a contribution separately to donations received.

The paved pathway and viewing area will also be engraved with messages of support from players along with those donated by the public or businesses.
