I can’t understand why Mr Anthony Bramley-Harker believes there’s misunderstanding and confusion amongst the electorate for this year’s Mayoral election. The only confusion the electorate will have is why have we taken 16 years to wake up and grasp the significance that the ratepayer has thrown away in the region of three quarters of a million pounds at this unwanted post of a mayor? Why does Mr Bramley-Harker believe the post of elected mayor can only be performed by paying someone the exorbitant amount of a quarter of a million pounds over four years? Mr Bramley-Harker also believes that all mayors before 2002 were not full time mayors. In the 60s Mr Finlay Mackenzie was a full time mayor of Watford and also held down a full time job with his employer British Rail. In Finlay’s year of office he did the job with no salary. Mr Bramley-Harker then goes on to say none of the candidates for the mayoral election have made any attempt to explain to the electorate what is involved in the post for which they are competing. Just recently I was most fortunate to have a private confidential conversation with one of this year’s mayoral candidates. This individual outlined their plans for the future of Watford and most important was their idea of doing the mayor’s job for nought.
