As a season ticket holder of many years, I was not in the least surprised when Marco Silva was sacked today.

It was evident right from the first match after Silva was offered the Everton job, his body language dramatically changed on the touchline, as did that of the players towards him.

Whilst it also has to be said that the club has been terribly unlucky in terms of injuries, Silva's substitutions and team selection sometimes beggared belief with the squad he had latterly at his disposal, particularly in terms of those defensive lapses which lost us the points at Palace and at home to Swansea.

The result of all this is that the club is now effectively in a relegation fight - something considered beyond belief ten matches ago, and so the Pozzo's had to act yet again to seek to preserve the club's status in the Premier Division and its massive financial benefits.

Yet if you look at the facts, the new manager comes from a moderate spell in the Russian Premier League and in my view is probably similar in his approach to that of Flores and Mazzari.

And what does he inherit in terms of a squad? Sadly there is such a massive gap in quality in terms of the top six teams and the bottom twelve that any three of these could be relegated due to a bad run.

In Watford's case, we can only hope that results go our way and the injuries cease, but I really do wonder what effect the short-termism and panic changes of Management by the board (regardless of the circumstances that have induced it) will ultimately have on the squad and club in general.

Looking back on these last ten matches I fear we will be in for an "edge-of-the-seat" last 14 games of 2018.
