Two young artists whose pictures were chosen for the Mayor's Christmas card were presented with awards for their efforts.

Mayor of St Albans, Cllr Mohammad Iqbal Zia, chose two designs from a competition at Oakwood Primary School to feature on his Christmas card.

The images were of a snow-covered St Albans Cathedral, drawn by Siobhan, and a snowman, drawn by Ruby.

The girls were presented with their framed pictures and book tokens at a special assembly on January 15.

Cllr Zia said: "I was amazed by the standard of the entries for the Mayor’s Christmas card competition run at Oakwood School and thank all the children who took part.

"For me, Siobhan’s snowy scene at St Albans Cathedral and Ruby’s snowman stood out. These two budding artists showed off their talent and the designs looked fantastic on my Christmas card."

At the assembly, the Mayor also spoke about his role and local democracy with the pupils.
