A pair of campaigners have been given an opportunity to travel the world to find solutions to important topical issues.

Alex Holmes, from Radlett, and Laura Randall from St Albans, have been awarded Churchill Fellowships, which allows them to search the world for ways to improve their communities.

Mr Holmes is an anti-bullying campaigner. He will travel to Australia, New Zealand, and Norway to explore approaches to increasing happiness and wellbeing in schools. His fellowship is being supported by the Mental Health Foundation.

Ms Randall works for children's charity, the NSPCC. She will travel to Canada, Russia, and the USA to investigate support for professionals to identify children at risk of online abuse.

Together, they have received grants almost £15,000 and have been selected alongside 148 people from across the UK.

A fellowship lasts around six weeks.

The next chance to apply for a Churchill Fellowship opens next month on April 27 and includes new categories such as rural living and suicide. Application details are online at wcmt.org.uk.
