A popular running track will be revamped later this year.

The six-lane, 400 metre track and the eight-lane, 100 metre section of the track at Westminster Lodge running track will be resurfaced with a synthetic material.

The track, which was opened in 1988 and is located next to Verulamium Park, is used by clubs and schools for district sport competitions.

Cllr Julian Daly, who is responsible for Commercial and Development, said: “The Westminster Lodge athletics track is an important venue and I am sure all those who use it will be pleased that the surface is to be upgraded.”

“This is just one of a number of projects that the council is undertaking in the coming months.

“A lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes to maintain and enhance our assets on behalf of our residents.”

St Albans Striders and St Albans Athletic Club both use the track for training and events.

The planned refurbishment follows the replacement of track floodlights last year.
