A manager at a leisure centre is jetting off to Israel to compete in the Lacrosse World Championships.

James Tiley, sports development and activities manager for Everyone Active, has been selected to represent Wales at the event in July 2018.

He has been training at Westminster Lodge Leisure Centre, which is operated by Everyone Active in partnership with St Albans City and District Council.

There will be 49 countries taking part in the competition this year and it will be hosted by Israel for the first time.

Mr Tiley has played lacrosse for about 17 years after discovering it when a coach visited his primary school looking to develop the sport among young children.

He said: “Obviously this is the biggest event for any lacrosse player in their career. I’m looking forward to testing myself against the other players.

“It will be a fantastic opportunity for me individually and the team as a whole, and I’m really excited to see how we get on.”
