A keen Scottish dancer who adored teaching children has died of cancer aged 75.

Glenday Thomas, who lived in Harpenden, lost her battle with colon cancer at the beginning of May.

The grandmother-of-five, who was diagnosed with the disease last year, also leaves behind three children, Kirsteen, Sheena and David.

She met her husband, Michael Thomas, at a Scottish dancing event when she was just a teenager.

St Albans & Harpenden Review:

Her love of dance inspired her to take over teaching dance at the Heil and Toe Club in Harpenden, which was set up by her father.

But she was also passionate about religion and was an instrumental part of the High Street Methodist Church in Harpenden.

Mr Thomas said: “She was friendly, kind and positive. She was always involved in teaching and liked encouraging young people.

“She was driven by her work for her children and the Christian faith.”

In June 2009, she was nominated for the St Albans Reviews’ search for a local hero competition for her work with the dancing club.

She was nominated again for a second time this month for her commitment to leading the junior church at the Methodist Church in High Street, Harpenden.
