A teenager has been charged with grievous bodily harm following an incident which left a 16-year-old boy in hospital.

The 14-year-old boy was charged by police following an altercation in Verulamium Park shortly before 7pm on June 15 in which another teenager was hospitalised.

The 14-year-old, who has also been charged with assault by beating, will appear in court today (June 18).

A third boy, 16, has since been arrested and remains in police custody.

Another 16-year-old boy was also arrested at the time and has been released on bail.

St Albans chief inspector, Stuart Cheek, said: “My officers have been working hard over the weekend to establish the circumstances around the incident and make arrests.

“I would like to thank everyone who has assisted with our enquiries so far and would urge anyone else with information about what happened to please contact us.

“I understand that news of this will have caused concern among the local community. We believe this is an isolated incident involving young people who are known to each other and we are doing all we can to bring those responsible to justice.”
