The man who spent five hours on a bridge over the M25 during a police stand-off has pleaded guilty.

Dayle Smith, of Bingham Close, Hemel Hempstead, admitted to causing a public nuisance at Junction 21a to 22 clockwise and Junction 21 to 23 clockwise.

He was first spotted on the bridge, near London Colney, at around 4pm.

Hundreds of people were stuck on the motorway as police tried to coax him down. 

They eventually succeeded at around 9pm.

He has had a mental health assesment and was deemed fit to appear in court.

He has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced on August 31.
