Two people have been airlifted to hospital while another has serious injuries following a three-vehicle crash this morning.

Emergency services were called to Hemel Hempstead Road at 6.20am at the junction of Aubrey Lane, near Redbourn.

Police say a silver Honda Civic that was travelling towards Hemel Hempstead collided with a silver Vauxhall Astra that was travelling in the opposite direction. As a result of the crash, the Astra then hit an orange Proton.

All three people inside the Proton have been taken to hospital.

The rear seat passenger was flown by air ambulance to Addenbrooke’s in Cambridge while the driver, who was initially taken to Watford General Hospital, has since been transferred to St Mary’s in London with “serious injuries”.

The front seat passenger is at Watford General with a leg injury.

The driver of the Astra has been airlifted to St George’s hospital in London while the one person who was in the Honda sustained “slight injuries”.

Firefighters had to free four people who were trapped in their vehicles and two roofs had to be cut away.

Hemel Hempstead Road, which has been shut for most of the day, has now reopened.
