THERE could be a complete ban on new mobile phone masts within 50 metres of any home or school in St Albans if the district council gets its way.
The authority is drawing up guidelines to cover future planning applications, and is considering imposing rules to protect the public.
The rules must be agreed with the county council, which is responsible for roads and schools.
Cabinet planning chief Chris Brazier said: "We are the first of the districts in the county to ask for separate guidance notes and if successful we hope the other districts will join us."
A 50-metre minimum distance has already been imposed in Milton Keynes.
