A PROFESSIONAL drama company in Redbourn is preparing to venture north and embark on a specialist Shakespeare tour around Hull.

MOPA, a company with offices in the street of Ben Austins, will be visiting 14 secondary schools to deliver Shakespeare sessions for a £16,000 contract awarded by Hull City Council.

The company will be performing some of the playwright's most famous works to help pupils understand the texts and characters through visual performance.

MOPA, which has performed in schools across Hertfordshire but never had a major contract before, will take to the road this month for the eight-week tour.

Clair Thomas of MOPA said: "We're delighted Hull City Council have chosen us to be part of such an exciting project and we look forward to making a difference in these pupils' lives.

"We have a unique, innovative and sometimes controversial approach to Shakespeare, not only in performance but right back at the start of rehearsals.

"We also have a ten-year proven track record to back us up."

"We look forward to making a difference in these pupils' lives." A press release written in the style of a government department, suggests MOPA's "unique, innovative and sometimes controversial approach to Shakespeare" follows New Labour guidelines with funding to match politically correct treatment of the Bard. Scrutiny of this company's website indicates it operates from a private house in Flamstead, doesn't explain what the name represents, says nothing about charges, source of income, insurance or CRB disclosures. In fact it looks like an out of work actor/teacher's paid hobby.

What a pity Bob, that your scrutiny was actually a vague dip of your toe in the pond. MOPA actors are all fully qualidied, all ahve insurance, all equity members and all have current CRB checks . I have seen them perform. They are excellent, and inspirethe youngsters they work with. You should check your facts before insulting hard working young people.
