THE traditional Beating of the Bounds ceremony is to take place tomorrow to celebrate the city's medieval heritage.
Accompanied by the macebearer and town crier, Mayor Kate Morris will be leading a procession around the ancient boundary of St Albans.
Participants stop at four designated posts to ceremonially strike the ground as they mark the boundary.
The walk, which starts at 2pm from Kingsbury Mill in St Michael's, covers a distance of roughly four miles and lasts about two and a half hours.
The tradition is thought to have started in the mid 13th Century when the boundaries were set.
