Volunteers give Hope

VOLUNTEERS from St Albans' Christian churches will be out in force this weekend seeking to demonstrate their faith and unity in practical ways.
As part of the nationwide 'Hope 2008' initiative, Hope St Albans is running a Works Weekend to bring people together on a number of projects, such as painting and decorating, spring cleaning and gardening.
The programme will involve two days of practical community action, serving the needs of organisations such as Grove House Hospice, Open Door Centre for the Homeless, St Albans City Hospital, and Earthworks, a charity which engages people with learning difficulties and mental health problems in conservation work.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult. People can help for just a morning or afternoon, or a whole day.
Hope 2008 is a nationwide initiative to get churches mobilised to work together in their neighbourhoods for a whole year, getting involved in the needs of their communities.
It looks to demonstrate Christian faith in action and to explain the meaning of that faith in villages, towns and cities throughout the UK.
