Six businesses in the district have been awarded for their outstanding customer service by an online insurance company. Swiftcover.

The 'Swift Awards', presented by Swiftcover, are aimed at small local businesses, ranging from fish and chip shops to service stations, which provide a reliable and quick service and offer good value for money.

The scheme will cover over 30 major cities in the UK in order to produce a free 24 hour directory of business listings.

Seventy-three awards have been given so far and out of the 50 businesses shortlisted in St Albans, six passed the rigorous judging review.

Each business was tested on how it set prices, resolved complaints, retained loyal customers and exceeded expectations.

The winners were: Annimalism Veterinary in St Albans, Deep Blue Fish and Chip Shop in St Albans, Mottown in London Colney, TCS Service Station in Colney Heath, Nine Lives Veterinary in Redbourn and Total Convenience Store in St Albans.

Ben Tharby, Supervisor of the Deep Blue Fish and Chip Shop in The Quadrent, said: "It means a lot to the staff that their hard work has been recognised and we would like to thank customers for their continued support."

The winning businesses will be awarded with their listing on the online consumer guide.

Tina Shortle, Marketing Director of Swiftcover said: "We're focusing on the ethos of hassle free service.

“It's all about putting the fun back into being the consumer and appreciating traditional, one-to-one service.

“There are no particular categories we will or won't allow.

“We see it as a free service for both consumers and businesses alike."

The organisers of the Swift Awards urge more businesses to nominate themselves or customers to nominate their business free of charge via the website www.swiftrelief.co.uk
