COUNCILLORS will tell the Post Office to keep its hands off their threatened branch.
Harpenden Town Council called an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday night to discuss their response to the proposed closure of the 107 Station Road branch in Batford.
A unanimous decision was taken to send the Post Office the strong message that they mislead people with inaccurate facts.
Harpenden Town Mayor, Councillor Pat Kent, said: “The Post Office has got its facts wrong in respect of the number of people that the Post Office serves, the number of properties outside of a mile radius, the distance to travel to an alternative post office; which is in the Town Centre; and the complete fabrication on ease of access at the main Post Office which is in the very busy link road and also services the main railway station.
“They claim that there is no disabled access to the Post Office at 107 Station Road and have ignored the hill that has to be negotiated to get to the main Post Office. “Community does not appear to be in their vocabulary.”
Residents have until August 26 to send their responses to the plans to National Consultation Team, Post Office Ltd, FREEPOST CONSULTATION TEAM. No stamp is required.
