Pub jumps on credit-crunch band wagon

A CITY centre pub is helping its customers beat the credit crunch by opening an organic soup kitchen.
The Boot pub in Market Place, St Albans, started brewing fresh soups this morning in time for lunch, aiming to offer 25 different varieties a week for £2.50 a bowl.
Shaun Hughes, the landlords’ son, said: “People don’t have much money or time at the moment so we thought this would present something quick and cheap.
“It makes us stand out a little against other pubs and brings something new to St Albans.
“We’re feeling the pinch like everyone else so we need to keep coming up with fresh ideas.
“We will be having a kitchen refurbishment though, to survive over the next few years we have to.”
Chefs from the Verulam Arms in Lower Dagnall Street, St Albans, which Shaun runs, make the soups for the Boot.
The soups are served daily from 12pm.
